That's because the Hugging Face incident wasn't intended to be an example of the real, present dangers of unchecked AI use in the real world. It was designed to demonstrate the unlimited power (and thus value) of their models, and thankfully it failed to do so.
AI labs don't stand to benefit from the tech being understood as dangerous for its lack of intelligence. They need it to be understood as dangerous like an intelligent alien civilization.

The government politicians who approved this are frequent flyers out of there, so they’re at least getting their lives out on the line before the rest of the country if it proves ill managed or conceived.
Apple has, for most of its existence, been a distant second choice, because IBM and Microsoft captured the enterprise, which trickled down into consumer buying habits.
It survived, then thrived, by making its products so appealing that customers would buy them anyway.

To be fair, if the US government had continued paying off the debt, the only way the (global) books would've balanced would've been for the US populace and businesses to take on waaaaayyyyyy more debt. Not sure if that would've been better.
