The point of AV is to catch that PCI DSS stamp of approval, not catch malware. Regulatory capture is the best marketing strategy

A paperback is $235.62.

What is it printed on??

The internet archive has a copy of the epub, but I have no idea if it’s a legal copy or piracy:

The method of printing is not the major cost differential in a book. Hardbound or softbound, the production costs don’t differ all that much. That is why ebooks are not substantially cheaper than a printed book.

When kids have to buy a textbook for school the price goes way up

Stretched dodo hide, tanned and prepared by blind monks.

the hopes and dreams of the publisher, author probably sees a very small %

Same as Necronomicon, surely.

Well, this one should have left copyright long ago and you can reprint it everywhere? :)

Isn’t copyright duration like 70 years? How could it have left copyright (one of the editions were published in 2013)?

I always thought invoking demons was more occult fantasy genre and not science fiction, but it is a matter of perspective I suppose.

You are right, but since Im a Philistine, I would put bock genres in the same bucket - excuse me :-D

I remember having to buy another Nokia (maybe a C something?) to get the E61. It was only available in a forced bundle deal, because refusing to sell your wares is always a solid market strategy

If that was in the USA, it might have been the only way Nokia could get the carriers to sell the E61. It's hard to believe now but US carriers were aggressively against phones having wifi. It eventually arrived on major carriers as the E62 — without the wifi (and with out the VoIP if I remember correctly, though I may be misremembering)

They burned out a lot of solid programmers rushing Qt for S60. Nothing much came out of it, but the management vision was to have QML apps on S60 compete with iPhones.

They might be amazing and hard working, but that doesn’t free them from the yoke of policy and script

Same goes for all companies bigger than a startup. The first line of support is AI, the second line is clueless, and the third level is powerless. HN is the only way to reach a human with both ability and willingness to help

CPUs did get 50% faster in two years. It wasn't the previous 2 years though.

Remember realizing it’s 0x777, one better than 666?

Probably more a reference to total file permissions.

That's 777 octal tho

I believe this was the case, as there was a lot of 666 going around at the time.

6-7 had yet to be discovered.

I always thought FXP was a much more common tool, as you could move releases between beefy servers without having to download them first https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_eXchange_Protocol

I was in a small courier group way back when. FXP was definitely common. We could copy a lot of software in a small amount of time.
